Erasmus+ Project: Europe Takes a Breath

20.11.2019

"Zeus and Europe had a son, Minos, who later became king of Knossos, Crete, as well as the entire Aegean basin. Minos lived during the heroic period and ruled for three generations before the Trojan War... legend has it that every ninth year he went to the cave of Idu, where Zeus advised him on how to rule... after sitting on the throne of Crete, Minos competed with his brothers to rule, and he prayed to Poseidon, the god of the sea... he sent a strong bull as a sign of support... Minos kept the famous mythical builder Dedal who built for him the grand palace and the famous labyrinth that housed the Minotaur, the son of Minos's wife Pesifas and the bull... a tyrant who sacrificed their children to the Minotaur, which Athens was supposed to send every year as a tax. .."

Our Erasmus group today was part of this story, in the ancient city of Knossos, where thousands of years before the new era came Minoan civilization, the first in Europe.  This is where the oldest letter on European soil was born.  Arthur Evans is the archaeologist who unleashed the magical enigma of the ancient city.

Many conquerors left traces in Heraklion, today's capital of Crete, but like Phoenix it rose from the fire and survived for thousands of years ... Europe needs to take a breath and breathe the air it deserves ... No accidental Project activities  they start right here, at the roots of European civilization ... let us remember that the survival of mankind depends on us, and the development of society must not lead to self-destruction ...
